# Over-the-shoulder

An over-the-shoulder shot frames one person from behind another’s shoulder. Board matching OTSs with eyelines and the 180-degree line, or they will not cut.

An **over-the-shoulder (OTS)** shows the subject from behind a foreground shoulder. Matching OTSs (A over B, B over A) are a coverage pair. They only cut if [eyelines](/glossary/eyeline) and the [180-degree line](/glossary/180-degree-rule) agree.

On the board, sketch the foreground shoulder so the operator knows whose coverage it is. Do not draw a clean single and label it OTS.
