# Shot list

A shot list is the storyboard in table form: scene, shot code, size, lens, movement, duration, notes. It should be the same record as the frames, not a second file.

A **shot list** is the board as a table. Same frames, different view: scene, shot code, thumbnail, size, lens, movement, subject, duration, notes.

If the list lives in a spreadsheet and the board lives in a drawing file, you have two productions. By the second revision they disagree. [Shot list software](/shot-list-software) and the [CSV template](/downloads/cineoboard-shot-list-template.csv).

## Identity vs order

[Shot codes](/blog/storyboard-numbering-and-shot-codes) (`12-A`) are identity. Playback order is for the [animatic](/glossary/animatic). Setup order is for the AD. One dataset, three sorts.

## Thumbnails are not decoration

A 1st AD confirms the crew is lighting the right thing by glancing at the thumbnail. Lists without pictures generate questions on set.
