A storyboard is stills in story order with shot data. It is the document a director, DoP and client argue about before the shoot — not a comic and not the edit.

A **storyboard** is a sequence of stills in story order, each carrying enough camera data to shoot from: size, often lens and movement, duration, audio, notes. It is a production document. If it cannot become a [shot list](/glossary/shot-list), it is a moodboard.

## What a panel must include

Picture plus footer. Picture without footer is art. Footer without picture is a list. You need both. [Template](/storyboard-template).
