# Shot list template (synced to the storyboard)

A practical shot list template for film and commercials: scene, shot, thumbnail, size, lens, movement, subject, duration, notes. Keep it synced to the storyboard.

A shot list is the storyboard in table form. If the two disagree, the table is usually the one the set believes — until it is wrong.

## The nine columns

| Column | Example |
| --- | --- |
| Scene | 4A |
| Shot | C |
| Thumbnail | (frame) |
| Shot size | MCU |
| Lens | 40mm |
| Movement | Slow push |
| Subject | Maya, pack shot |
| Duration | 2.5s |
| Notes | VO line 3; no logo until end |

That set is explained at length in [the shot list fields every board should carry](/blog/storyboard-shot-list-template). Add columns only when a department asks (unit, shoot day, VFX plate). Wide lists do not get read.

## Spreadsheet vs attached list

Google Sheets works until the board is reordered. Then someone has to renumber 40 rows by hand. [CineoBoard](/storyboard-software) attaches the row to the frame. Reorder the board; the list follows. Export CSV when a logistics tool needs a file.

## Durations are not optional

Sum the duration column. That number is your animatic length and a check against the booked slot. A 30-second commercial whose list sums to 44 seconds is not “tight in the edit.” It is a different script. See [storyboard vs animatic](/blog/storyboard-vs-animatic).

## FAQ

### Is there a free shot list template download?

Copy the nine columns into a sheet, or export CSV from the [demo](/demo). A CSV without thumbnails is still better than nothing; a CSV that is not generated from the board will drift.

### Does CineoBoard replace StudioBinder’s shot list?

For boarding, yes — the list is the board. For call sheets and scheduling, no. Many teams [board in CineoBoard and export into StudioBinder](/vs/studiobinder).
