YouTube is not a 30s TVC with a smaller logo. The skip is the format. If frame one is a logo hold, you already lost.

Walkthrough for paid ads: [YouTube ad storyboard](/blog/youtube-ad-storyboard). Structures: [storyboard examples](/storyboard-examples).

## Skippable in-stream (16:9)

- Seconds 0–5 must contain the problem or the payoff, not the brand anthem
- Put the URL / offer on a frame with its own duration, not “lower third forever”
- End card is a frame, legally timed, not a hope in the edit

## Shorts and Stories (9:16)

Set the ratio **before** you draw. A 16:9 board recropped to 9:16 loses every important hand-off at the sides. Template notes: [storyboard template](/storyboard-template).

## Channel openers and explainers

These are not ads. You can hold a wide. You still need durations if you will cut to VO. An [animatic](/blog/how-to-make-an-animatic) with scratch VO is cheaper than discovering the opener is 40 seconds in the edit.

## FAQ

### Do I need a storyboard for organic YouTube?

If more than one person shoots, or you have a client, yes. If you talk to camera in one setup, a shot list of three lines is enough.

### Can I try this on a sample?

Yes — [live demo](/demo) and [free templates](/free-storyboard-template). Audience page: [CineoBoard for YouTube](/for/youtube).
