Medium shot

A medium shot typically frames from the waist up. On boards it is the workhorse for dialogue and product-plus-hands. Note if it is a clean single or a two-shot.

A medium shot (MS) usually frames from the waist or mid-torso up. It is the workhorse of dialogue and of “product in hands.” Write whether it is a clean single or a two-shot; those are different setups.

MCU (medium close-up) sits between MS and CU. Pick one label and stick to it on the shot list.

Related: shot size, over the shoulder.
