Lesson steps
1. Introduce cause and effect (5 min)
Write on the board:
Give an example: "Cause: It rained all night. Effect: The ground is wet."
Explain: every effect has a cause. Every cause has an effect.
- Cause: Why something happened
- Effect: What happened
2. Model with a known event (5 min)
Draw a T-chart on the board:
Fill in a few together. Ask: what caused this? what was the effect?

3. Students board cause and effect (15 min)
Open Storyboard Creator. Pick the T-Chart layout. Students map cause-and-effect pairs from a text, historical event or scientific process:
Students create 3–5 cause-effect pairs. Each pair gets a row. Add captions below each cell.

4. Share and extend (5 min)
Pairs compare boards. Ask: can you find a chain? Does one effect become the cause of something else?
Differentiation
- Younger students: Use two panels (one cause, one effect) instead of a full T-chart
- Older students: Add a third column for "evidence from the text"
- Science class: Use a natural process (water cycle, food chain)
- Social studies: Use a historical event (causes of a war, effects of a decision)
